¹⁵ Now three of the thirty captains came down to the cave of Adullam to be with David, while the army of the Philistines was camped in the Valley of Rephaim. ¹⁶ David was in the stronghold, and there was a Philistine outpost in Bethlehem. ¹⁷ David longed for water so he said, “Oh that you would give me some water to drink from the well that is at the gate of Bethlehem.”
